walls and ashes heir of scars i part two Reviews
I received this book from the author for an honest review.Again the Author has surpassed my expectations in this book. As in Part 1, we saw a world come to life right before our eyes. The depth of the characters we meet and the stories they themselves tell make this a well rounded and full adventure that you won't want to miss. The details of the forest, the roads, the towns that Adria visits is in such detail you feel as if you are watching a movie within your mind. The food eaten, the manners in which they feast, the conversations around the table is all there. Amazing how immersed you become in this story. I can not say it enough, this Author is truly gifted, but you the reader have to allow him to take full control as you enter his world. Allow the time to read the story fully ingesting each sentence as the World he creates is magnificent! In Part 2 - Walls and Ashes, Adria continues her journey back to Windberth from her three year stay with the Aesidhe. It is a long road and one that helps her gain the confidence she needs to return to her father, the King. Meeting other nobility who take her into their home shows her the kindness that still exists in the Aeman culture and how not everyone is looking for a war. Once she finds her self back within the citadel walls, Adria now realizes that the trip through the many towns has been unhindered as if her flight home was known all along. But by whom is the question? But alas, what her homecoming will unravel for us the reader will have to wait for Part 3. A well done story and one I highly recommend.
Picking Up Steam - 5 starsIf part one was good part two is, simply put, excellent. Because I have already evaluated the writing, characters, editing, and originality for this series - and because my earlier convictions remain in tact on all accounts - I will avoid boring you with a repeat of my previous review. The story is starting to really pick up with this book and I find myself even more intrigued and eager for the next part than I had been before. Adria is a strong character (as much by her weaknesses and insecurities as by her strengths and confidences) and the customs and formalities adopted by the various cultures to which she experiences are richly detailed, yet not too complex that one can't follow along comfortably. They add a sense of dimension to the story that is, all too often with other works that attempt this much scope, lacking. Much like J.K. Rowling and Kim Harrison, Jacob Falling has clearly developed a three-dimensional world in his imagination and is able to masterfully convert it to paper for a reader.Just as I was able to picture the many buildings of Diagon Ally as Harry walked among them, I felt immersed in and transported to the capital city of this fictional world of Heiland as I read this piece.Up Next: Mobility of Pawns~WaAr
The worldbuilding continues in full-strength with this second installment. As Adria approaches the city, we get a rich description that paints a very vivid picture in our minds.Characterization also remains strong, particularly with the Marbury family; in spite of their large size and the brief time we get to meet them, we see all of them as fully-fledged individuals. Particular praise must be given to Lady Marbury, whom I hope to see again soon.Likewise, it was interesting to finally meet Matron Taber, whose presence in the narrative was incredibly powerful even before it took a physical shape. More, please!
I follow Adria and her steps to a new world. And in her world I get to visit cities, forest and meet strong well-built characters. Some characters make me shiver and it’s delightful and inspiring to see that Adria doesn’t. She reveals a strong independent personality and she clearly knows how to deal with any situation, being it a fight, a problem to solve or a goal. “I will see…” shows no doubts at all. The scene at the end of part II made me skip a lot of duties to fully embrace an inevitable encounter and be longing for more. I am sure Pat III will not disappoint me.
